INVESTMENT
In 2005 I created Marmalade Photography with the intended goal, then as it is now, to capture beautiful shared moments between family members and document important milestones in children’s lives in a way that is fun, relaxed and joyful. I set out to create artful moments for my clients in an easy going and relaxed way, the day of your session should be filled with laughter, fun and memories of your favorites while we are memory making. I want you to remember the smell of burning leaves in the air during a fall photo shoot in Chicagoland. The feel and smell of the air during those few moments during a summer sunset. The sound, the emotion of being in the great city of Chicago as I photograph your family amongst the hustle and bustle of the big city.
As you can imagine my clients can choose from a variety of settings to showcase their beautiful selves and/or their beautiful families. I often travel on location. Sometimes to suburban North Shore to photograph clients in their favorite spaces, sometimes to Downtown Chicago to photograph clients in their high rise homes or in the many fabulous neighborhoods within the great city of Chicago. I often travel on location to meet up with clients from out of state visiting Chicago, using the beautiful backdrop of the city of Chicago to showcase my clients and their beautiful selves. I travel throughout the western and southwest suburbs to create beautiful images of my clients and their families in their homes or other special-to-them locations. Many clients travel from all over (some as far as Wisconsin, Texas & Missouri!) to have me capture images of themselves with their families in my Southwest Suburban located Marmalade Locations.
I creatively utilize light and shadow in order to tell the story of my Marmalade families. As a professional child and family photographer with almost two decades of experience I feel like I’ve almost seen it all, but not yet! There is so much more to see, do, be inspired by! I am grateful that my clients welcome me into a sliver of their lives to create art that represents their image of FAMILY, time & time again. I feel very lucky to see and capture these most cherished of happy moments for so many of my beautiful Marmalade Families.
You can find me cuddling and snuggling newborns for infant-newborn photography sessions in Chicago, running after busy toddlers as a baby photographer in the suburbs of Chicago and having a great time working with families in their homes throughout Chicagoland as Chicago’s family photographer of choice. Sometimes you’ll find me hanging out, chilling and photographing some high school seniors getting those last moments in of when they were still their mom and dads “Little”.

What kind of photography experience are you looking for?
This is the primary question most photographers will ask you when you reach out to find out a little more about their work and the first question you ask is: “HOW MUCH?”
…and while it’s a terrific question it certainly isn’t the only one you should be asking.
Fine photography is an investment of time, energy and memory making. When you pause on TODAY you can’t get today back no matter how much you try. So when you choose to invest in a photographer you should get to know what they are all about. The questions beyond price are:
• How many years of experience do you have photographing professionally?
• What is your typical client session like?
• Do you have examples of your recent work on your site?
• Are all the photos on your site from client commissioned work?
To answer these questions we simply say: Since 2005 Marmalade Photography has been creating one of a kind photo experiences for Chicago area families (and beyond sometimes). Examples of our most recent work can be seen throughout this website and on our blog. We have hundreds of families that have helped us create their memories for them. 97% of the work featured here is client commissioned work. Yes I am guesstimating based on the fact that about 3% of the work featured is of my own children (as they have grown up and have been captured by me as “Marmalade IS family” truly) and some workshop work I have created alongside other photographers during mentorships. I think it’s pretty clear what constitutes that kind of work! 🙂
As for “How much?” it really does depend on the kind of experience you’re looking for 😀
SIGNATURE SESSION: a photography experience lasting about 1-2 hours typically (there really is no time limit but in our experience this is how it usually plays out).
Through the years I have continued to hold my photographic work and customer service to a high exacting standards delivering beautiful images, end products and top notch customer service to my vast clientele, the majority of whom become sort of an extended family for me.
Some of my travel photography has also appeared in National Geographic Traveler magazine. I have had work published in local papers as well as nationally in Sunday newspaper inserts. Local and international publications have interviewed me for my photography expertise and showcased my work.
Ultimately I believe in education to become better at my craft; I also believe in helping my fellow photographers along the way and have been doing so since almost the inception of MP.
Over the years I have contributed to and have written countless articles and tutorials on the craft and art of photography; I have also trained dozens of photographers through the years through my See the Light mentorship and workshop programs (currently closed). I have participated in teaching online to countless photographers via the trade organizations within the professional photography community (PPA online & various professional photography websites).

I created Marmalade Photography in 2005 to serve Chicago photography families.

Before the professional accolades & press I started MARMALADE for FAMILY. The MAR- stands for me, Marianne. The -MA- stands for my oldest, Madeline. The -LA- stands for my youngest, Lauren. And the -DE stands for Duane.
Marmalade is family. It was true in 2005 and it is true today.
My expertise as a Chicago professional photographer translates to a fun filled photography adventure resulting in gorgeous artwork for your home…this was my goal in 2005 and continues to be my goal today!
