Some frequently asked questions about our Chicago photography services are:
Typically Marmalade Photography sessions are like fun playdates. Marianne has no problem getting on your child’s level to connect with and explore your child’s personality through the lens whether they are 18 months or 18 years of age.
Our typical Chicago photography session is fun and laid back. The organic capture of your family being as they are today is so important to creating beautiful heartfelt art. We strive to make these sessions enjoyable for every one involved (especially dad!).
Every child has their own make believe world we strive to showcase who they are at this current stage.
Our passion is in mother-child photography so please plan on getting a few images with your Little if the session is supposed to be dedicated to just them. We know how few images we moms get with our babes and love creating something beautiful for moms to remember their children’s childhoods by.
Please bring anything that would have meaning to you (or your little one) – a favorite teddy bear or blanket, a family heirloom, whatever has meaning or significance to you: we enjoy showcasing these little bits of family history for our clients.
There are a few factors that go into deciding what time of day to hold a session. Generally speaking: when we travel on location (area Chicago photography) sessions are scheduled in the mid to late morning. Our Marmalade Location sessions typically are scheduled to take advantage of late afternoon/early evening light.
As we are planning your session together please keep in mind that we do account for nap times and the “witching” hour for Littles. If there is a concern with the time proposed please make us aware to work to accommodate and capture your Little at their best time of day.
Generally speaking: the perfect time to schedule your session is anywhere from 2-4 weeks in advance. This 2-4 week window allows for outfit selection, discussion regarding location and prep time for the subjects for the session (i.e. Senior photos: nails, hair, prepping uniforms, etc).
Having said that we can often accommodate sessions sooner than that, seasonally dependent of course.
In the busy fall season sessions can fill up quickly; sometimes in the “busy season” one to two months in advance booking is recommended.
As always reach out to us to see if we can accommodate your schedule. Visitors to Chicago looking for photography sessions often book just days in advance and we can often fit into their schedule while they are visiting the city of Chicago.
Yes, we have weekend availability in addition to our usual weekday schedule. Please inquire with your specific request(s).

What to expect during your Marmalade Photography experience?
Right now!! Any age, any stage is worth capturing. Time is a thief, it passes too quickly! To not capture the moment will feel criminal in hindsight so please do not beholden to a certain timetable. Right now really is the perfect time!
Some clients prefer to have Marmalade Photography capture their children during certain stages in their childhood rather than a given age. For instance many clients have, through the years, sought sessions with Marmalade several times during their children’s babyhood, then during toddler hood, preschool age, then early school age. They may skip a few years and our next session may be while their child is pre-middle school, middle school and once during their teen years with plans to be photographed by Marmalade Photography for their high school senior photos.
Most typically our clients choose these ages and we agree that these are our favorite ages to photograph as “milestones”. Infants/newborns at around 7-10 days old. Babies at three months, seven months, and one year. Then once yearly up until age 5 or 6. Most clients? We see them every 2-3 years until about highschool and then we see our Marma-kids for their senior photos right around the end of junior year well into the spring of their senior year in high school.
We then usually get a beautiful family photo sometime during the college years. Occasionally we are invited to photograph important family events during this time period and the cycle continues as we photograph the next generation.
Session fees are for the time and expertise to reserve your time and date for your session and to create these images for you.

We have a couple of options. Our Signature Session is our most popular option. The Signature Session is a time unlimited session (typically these last 60-90 minutes) for up to five people (more with add on cost) with unlimited outfit changes (typically plan on 2 or 3 as this is the most common) and we showcase about 20-25 unique poses in your final gallery.
Our Mini Session experiences are based around much the same concept but are 20 minutes in length with typically 1 (or 2) outfit changes. We sometimes call these our “Fun Sized” sessions.
